Additiol Chief Secretary monitors relief work in Chirang

KOKRAJHAR, Dec 31: Additiol Chief Secretary, Assam, VB Pyarelal, visited the relief camps in Chirang district on Wednesday. He took stock of the conditions in the relief camps and the inmates and monitored the relief and rehabilitation measures being carried out by the district administration.

He was accompanied by Chirang Deputy Commissioner Rupak Kumar Muzumder and other officials of the district. Interacting with the camp inmates he also tried to instill confidence among them so that they could go back soon to their villages. Accordingly, some of the inmates expressed their willingness to go back.

Most of the inmates in Chirang district took shelter in relief camps out of fear. DIPRO, Chirang, Gagan rzary informed that the present number of relief camps in the district was 24 with total number of inmates being 33,846, of which 11,595 are Bodos and 22,251 are Adivasis.

Additiol Director General of Police AK Jha also visited the riot–affected villages and relief camps. He also attended the peace meetings with both Bodo and Adivasi people. He appealed to both the communities to maintain peace and assured that sufficient security would be provided for their return to their villages.
