Bodies of teegers recovered

JORHAT, January 5: Bodies of two teegers were recovered hanging from a tree at Pokimora Habi Gaon near RRL (Regiol Research Laboratory) campus under Pulibor outpost in Jorhat on Monday.

The duo have been identified as Uttam yak (18) and Upen Tanti (18), both close friends and milkmen by profession. The police suspect it to be a case of suicide arising out of a triangular love affair with a girl of a neighbouring village belonging to the same community.

The elder sisters of Uttam yak, Podumi and Sushila yak said, “Our brother cannot commit suicide. On January 1, Uttam was badly beaten up by the family members of a girl med Bhagya Tanti for giving her a New Year greeting card. When his friend Upen Tanti tried to resist even he too was badly thrashed. If our brother had to commit suicide he would have done it on that day itself and not yesterday. We suspect it to be a case of murder. Even yesterday he called us and informed that he was with his friends and said he had something important to discuss but he did not turn up.”

No magistrate allegedly turned up for inquest. Police took the bodies to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital for postmortem accompanied by the fathers of the deceased.
