Desist from political gimmicks, ATTSA warns Congress, BJP

By Our Staff Reporter

Guwahati, January 8: Concerned over the massacre of Adivasis in the State by Bodo militants, the All Tea Tribes Students Association (ATTSA) today dubbed the ongoing anti–insurgency operations as an eye–wash which were not "result–oriented".

Addressing a press conference here, ATTSA president Prahlad Gowala and acting general secretary Dhiraj Gowala also alleged that both the Congress and the BJP were indulging in political gimmicks to extract mileage in the aftermath of the carge.

The ATTSA leaders warned that if the political parties do not desist from the “political dramas”, it would be forced to embark on a series of agitations after Magh Bihu.

“The Congress and the BJP are trying to extract mileage from the carge and its aftermath. The BJP government had announced an operation after the attacks, but we have not seen any results on ground so far. Nobody knows what is happening in the operation. Whereas, NDFB militants are roaming freely in BTAD even today,” Gowala said.

On the other hand, they said, the Congress government in the State and the Assam Police was “not cooperating” in the Centre’s operation as a result of the political tussle.

“The role of Assam Police is doubtful. It is not assisting the army. Why wasn’t the State government not able to prevent the violence despite having prior intelligence inputs?” they questioned.

“The Congress and BJP both have an eye on the 2016 assembly elections and so they are indulging in cheap politics. All the so–called measures taken by the Centre and State are nothing but a drama,” they said.

The students’ body warned that the political parties cannot fool the 80 lakh Adivasi population and so they should desist from such tactics.
