Kokrajhar carge: Adivasi killers held

Kokrajhar, January 9: Seven Bodo terrorists who carried out one of the massacres on December 23 last were today arrested by security forces and huge cache of arms and ammunition seized, dealing the first significant blow to the outfit since the carge that had left 81 people dead.

Two of the arrested are key leaders of the banned outfit, one of whom – Milan Mushahary alias Mithinga (24) – is the second–in–command of the Serfanguri platoon of the outfit. Mithinga and another arrested cadre Khurai are trained in the rebel camps in Bangladesh.

A huge case of sophisticated arms and ammunition including four AK–56 Rifles, one HK 33 Assault Rifle, one M–16 Rifle, four 9mm pistols (total 11 weapons) , 12 hand gredes and huge quantity of ammunition were recovered from the terrorists.

The operation by a joint team of police and army was carried out in the jungles of Ripu Reserve Forest under Kachugaon Police Station in the district this morning.

Police sources said after the massacre of innocent Adivasis on December 23, most of the cadres and leaders of the NDFB (Songbijit faction) have started fleeing for safe hideouts in the neighboring states as security forces stepped up their offensive. They have reportedly dumped their arms and ammunitions underground.

The arms and ammunition recovered today were unearthed from a jungle, 4 km north of Thaisouguri forest village.

Sources said the seized arms and ammunition belonged to B Jwblang’s group on the outfit.

Police also said the arrested cadres were directly involved in the Pakhiriguri killings on December 23 evening under Serfanguri police station as well as killing of the Hindi–speaking people on NH 31 on January 17 in 2014.

The weapons recovered today were the same which were displayed by the group of Jwblang and Mithinga in June 2014 in a jungle near Khausi Bazar under Serfanguri police station before the TV cameras of media persons, the police claimed.

The arrested cadres have been identified as arrested Milan Mashahary alias Mithinga (24) of village Hokradoba under Udalguri PS, Goutam Moholia (29) of village Khagrabari under Udalguri PS, Joyanta Muchahary (26) of village Hokradoba of the same district, Smt Bi Basumatari (27) of village Belguri under Serfanguri PS, Swmkwr Brahma (22) alias Khurwi of Ghoskata–Modati under Dotma PS, Khanda rzary and Deuthai Basumatary.

Sources also said operation was continuing to apprehend more cadres of the outfit and unearth their hidden weapons. (with inputs from Guwahati)
