Rebia stresses maintaining ecological balance

Itanagar, May 28: Environment and Forest Minister Nabam Rebia has appealed the local villagers to keep the flora and fauna intact for maintaining of ecological balance.

Addressing a development meeting at Mani village under Doimukh circle of Paum Pare district on Sunday, Rebia said uncontrolled deforestation is impacting the balance of ecology. “We are slowly losing out on oxygen and other forest produces and a time will come when we may suffer for want of clean and green environment.”

On the reported blow to the water level in Mani Nallah, the minister said that all those were due to rampant earth cutting and felling of trees, and ask the villagers to avoid jungle clearing, forest fire and jhum cultivation in and around 1- km radius of water catchment areas.

Responding to the memorandum submitted by local PRI members, Rebia said that he had already released Rs 50 lakh for CC road in the village and additional fund would also be released as per the estimate submitted by the PWD, and asked the engineer of the Doimukh Division for the completion of additional 1-km of the CC road in the area.

He also assured of providing power supply to unconnected residents of the panchayats.

Further, Rebia appealed the villagers to arrange a place for recreation or playing of games and sports so that the health and fitness levels of the youth and children are maintained.
