Tiwa organizations stage dharna

MORIGAON, May 28: The All Tiwa Students’ Union (ATSU), All Tiwa Woman Forum (ATWF), Tiwa Protection Committee (TPC), Tiwa Yuba Chatra Parishad (TYCP), Autonomous Demand Committee (ADC), Tiwa Cultural Society (TCS), and Tiwa Yuba Santha (TYS), with support of more than 1,000 Tiwa people, staged a mass dharna at Morigaon town on Monday demanding immediate arrest of sitting MLA Ramakanta Deuri for alleged misappropriation of Rs 66 lakh plan fund allotted for the construction of the bust of Tiwa hero Jungal Balhu.

The organizations also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner. In the memorandum, they demanded that the government should soon submit the proposal for inclusion of Tiwa Autonomous Council in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution, MLA Ramakanta Deuri should be arrested and probe should be ordered against him for alleged misappropriation of Rs. 66 lakh plan fund allotted for setting up of the 26-foot high bust of Tiwa hero Jungal Balahu, Tiwa language teachers should be appointed soon and the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 should be scrapped.

The organizations included the copy of RTI application submitted for getting information about the misappropriation of Rs. 66 lakh plan fund done by the sitting MLA during his tenure as the CEM of the Tiwa Autonomous Council (TAC). The organizations said that the sitting MLA had misappropriated 90 per cent of the Rs.66 lakh as the president of the construction committee of the bust of Jungal Balahu, of which Rs.30 lakh was allotted from the financial year 2010-11 and Rs 36 lakh allotted from the financial year 2012-13.
