DHUBRI, May 30: Bank services across lower Assam districts were hit on the first day of two-day nationwide bank strike on Wednesday against the meagre two per cent salary hike and in support of other demands. Dhubri unit of United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU) staged demonstration in support of their charter of demands in front of Dhubri Branch of UCO Bank on Wednesday. All the ATMs of nationalized banks remained inoperative and people were found making long queues in front the ATMs of private banks.

Besides increase in salary, the charter of demands also includes medical insurance scheme, variable pay, and inclusion of Officer Scale III in the talk. “We are ready to deliver the services to the customers and government as well, but let all our legitimate demands be fulfilled first, or else we will intensify our movement in the days to come,” union members said.
