Expert team supervises embankment repair work

KALAIGAON, June 17: An expert team of the Water Resources Department visited the river side on Saturday evening where the department has begun repair of the damaged embankment of Noa river at Rupatal under Kalaigaon revenue circle. According to locals, due to heavy rainfall in 2015, the Noa river had overflowed and flooded this area. The embankment of the river had also been damaged that year. Since then the people of the area have to face a lot of hardship every monsoon season.

But this year, the repair work of the damaged embankment has been going on since the last four weeks when State Water Resources Minister Keshab Mahanta visited Rupatal on May 24 along with the department Chief Executive Engineer. Mahanta inspected the river side and saw the damaged portion of embankment and directed his department officers to start work for repair of the damaged embankment immediately.

As directed, Niresh Sarma, assistant executive engineer of Udalguri Water Resources division, started repair work of the embankment. An expert team of the Water Resources Department visited the river side to supervise the quality of the work. RP Das, secretary of the Water Resources Department, Government of Assam, P Dutta, Quality Chief Executive Engineer along with Ajoy Basumatary, Executive Engineer, took stock of the embankment repair work at Rupatal on Saturday evening and they were accompanied by local MLA Maheshwar Baro.
