NH-52 faces serious erosion threat

Itanagar, Jun 17: The NH-52 which had raised new hopes for the residents of flood prone Tezu, the district headquarters if Lohit district, is facing threat of being washed out by the turbulent Sukha Nallah. Danglat village RCC bridge point seems to be most vulnerable as some portion of the highway has been eroded and possibly of complete wash out by monsoon triggered rains cannot be ruled out. The highway from Digaru to Dimwe is under 48 BRTF. But rain fed Sukha Nallah watercourse has dubious distinction to breach the NH at various pocket during peak monsoon to cut off Tezu from rest of India. Despite knowing the facts, the lackadaisical attitude of BRO has evoked criticism.

Agriculture Minister Dr Mohesh Chai during his recent meeting also resented over the dilly dallying tactic of the 48 BRTF in taking preventive steps.

The embankment was supposed to be completed during lean season, but work started late and still not complete causing threat to the NH, he had said, and urged the DC to take up with the authority to do the needful for expediting works to protect the NH, the lifeline, at the earliest.
