SUMAA seeks clarification on Tibetan refugees

Itanagar, Jun 17: The Students' United Movement of All Arunachal (SUMAA) while reiterating its stance on TRP (Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy) issue, has set a 15-day deadline for the state government to come up with a "corrective" measure in this connection.

In a 'representation cum reminder' addressed to the Chief Minister, the organisation said if the state government does not comply with the deadline, SUMAA would be launching its own course of action to safeguard the motherland "from the intrusion of Tibetan migrants".

SUMAA president Tagru Tame stated: "The matter of Tibetan can't be kept untouched & govt should not take it in lighter note. This is 'a now or never fight' of the indigenous populace and is a 'Self Rescue Mission' of our people from draconian intention of Tibetan migrants."

GS Suraj Ligu said: "The state government under Chief Minister Pema Khandu assured that the Tibetan refugees will not ask for citizenship rights in future and their representatives are ready to go for further talks with SUMAA and from our side, we demanded it in written form so that there won't be any chances of citizenship claims for Tibetan in days to come. We want to make it loud and clear that the matter of Tibetan refugees should not be carried forward from generation to generation & Govt to Govt where they will be the ultimate winner and we won't let it happen."

Claiming that the Arunachal Pradesh (Land Settlement and Records) (Amendment) Act, 2018 has loopholes where the Tibetans have all possible chances to entitle for land lease agreement totaling 66 years, SUMAA said, we seek immediate modification of the present Act.
