Itanagar, July 9: Barely a day after the discovery of treasure beads and archaic metallic idols at Oyan village in East Siang district, the State’s Archaeological Research department has decided to conduct scientific survey at Oyan in order to explore the archaic goods.
Official sources on Monday informed that the Archaeological Department has shown keen interest in the matter and has decided to carry out a scientific survey beneath the soil of Oyan village. The department would soon send a team for conducting survey at Oyan village within second week of this month, sources disclosed.
The circle officer of Oyan has already informed the concerning gaon buras and PRI leaders about the plan of Archaeology department. He urged them to guard the area to prevent any further digging until the scientific survey is conducted.
The villagers of Oyan on Sunday assembled in a public meeting and resolved to stop further digging in search of the precious beads in the area. The meeting chaired by former MP Nyodek Yongam, later constituted a committee with the nomenclature of “Oyan Village Development Committee” with Tamat Tako and Majit Pao as president and secretary.
It may be recalled here that precious metal statues, beads like Dogne, Doksor, Dogpun, Doglee and coins of pre-independent regimes were unearthed from Oyan village. The locals expect the ground is still full of worthy pearls. |
