Itanagar, Aug 17: The North East Students’ Organisation (NESO), the umbrella organization of different Student Unions of the region has appealed to the Centre and respective State governments for immediate effective measures to ensure mental, physical and social security of the Northeast people all over the country.
Referring to various incidents of atrocities committed on people from the Northeast, particularly students living in different parts of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, NESO, in a communiqué, today demanded intervention of Prime Minister and Home Minister for ensuring proper security to the people.
Considerable numbers of people from the northeastern States have been living away from their home in other parts of the country for education and employment due to lack of adequate academic and employment facilities locally, it said.
The apex students’ body of the region described frequent incidents of discrimination, atrocities and killing of Northeast people and the present panic situation of fleeing various cities for fear of life as very unfortunate.
Questioning as to why people from Northeast are discriminated, NESO demanded that the PM must be accountable to the region, being the representative from the Northeast.
“Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is morally duty bound and accountable to the people of the region for an immediate effective action regarding this situation, giving justice to the people of the Northeast region”, the communiqué added. |
