Itanagar, Mar 20: Tawang district in Arunachal Pradesh has witnessed heavy snowfall in the past couple of days bringing vehicular traffic into a standstill.
On Saturday, several vehicles were stranded near Sela Pass situated at an altitude over 14000 feet. The Indian Army reportedly aided in safe evacuation of at least 127 passengers on the day.
The district administration has positioned men and materials at Sela Pass to tide over any crisis.
Reportedly, about three feet of snow was recorded at Sela pass while snowfall was also witnessed in the outskirt of Tawang town.
Meanwhile, a Bulgarian national was killed after she was hit by an avalanche while trekking in the hills of RA3, near Sela Pass on Saturday, Tawang SP Manoj Kumar Meena informed.
The 25-year-old lady identified as Maria Dimitrova, was reportedly thrown some 100 metres down the cliff following the avalanche, which caused her death.
She was trekking the hills with a New Zealand national Tom Hanchet (27), who survived the fall and escaped with minor injuries.
