Conspirarcy to dampen Gaurav’s Karimganj visit suspected

From our Staff Reporter

Silchar, May 16 : Clandestine hand of State Yuva Congress behind the unprecedented free-for-all fisticuff between groups, one belonging to Minister Siddeque Ahmed another to MLA Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, on Tuesday inside Karimganj Congress office, was suspected.

Sources said, a State Youth Congress leader had directed the district Yuva Congress president Rajshekhar Dutta over telephone not to accord much welcome to Gaurav Gogoi who was scheduled to visit Karimganj on Thursday. Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha, the MLA from Karimganj North, had reportedly cancelled two programmes at Fakirabazar and Lasksmisahar where Gaurav was supposed to be the chief guest. However, the district Congress had arranged meeting for Gaurav. Even the Yuva Congress camp was planning to accord warm welcome to the son of the Chief Minister.

Minister Siddeque Ahmed would be present in these programmes, a source said. Meanwhile, a top Yuva Congress leader from Guwahati had reportedly told the district Yuva Congress leader that Gaurav was a newcomer and as such there was no need to pay much interest to his visit.

On Tuesday, DCC presient Satu Roy directed Krishnendu Paul, a staunch follower of Siddeque Ahmed, to look after the functioning of the Youth Congress. This had sparked off much tension in the ruling party. There was free for all fight among the Congress workers, Satu Roy was ghearoed by a group, even there was road blockade in the important roads of the town causing much problem for the local people.
