SILCHAR, June 19: In order to mobilize mass support for its jail bharo andolan on June 22 across Barak Valley districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi along with the rest of the country, BJP leaders and workers have gone all hog, addressing street corner meetings, both in the urban and rural areas. The campaign has been launched against the policies of the UPA Government and the State of Assam for ignoring the interests of common people in general. The team of leaders led by Kirit Bhusan Purkaystha, president of Cachar district BJP, and others who include Kanad Purkaystha, MP nominee, Rajdeep Roy, Minakshi Chakraborty, Nritya Bhusan Dey, Uday Shankar Goswami, former MLAs, and Partha Chanda, besides a host of workers and supporters, have in their addresses lambasted the government for the unchecked rise in the prices of essential commodities and its failure to control the dictate of profiteers , black marketers and hoarders who are virtually ruling the roost.
The issues of unabated corruption in governance and public life, huge amount of black money stashed away in foreign banks, particularly Swiss, Rs 70 thousand crore scam in Common Wealth Games, Rs 1.76 lakh crore scandal centering round the 2G Spectrum, Adarsh Colony financial mess as well as other cases of corruption have been their targets for blistering attack. The speakers through their oratory have been conveying the message that unless the Congress led UPA Government is not voted out in the next general elections, there will be no end to the miseries and sufferings of people.
The street corner meetings and lectures have been going on along with rallies before the offices of the blocks as well as the circle and administrative headquarters. The Centre and the State Government have surrendered to the capitalists and the very ideals and principles of a socialistic pattern of society as envisioned in the Constitution of India have been thrown to the forewinds, they have pointed out. Kabindra Purkaystha, MP, has also been leading the attack on the government from the forefront, exposing its lack of will and inability to govern the nation.
BJP leaders expect to garner the desired support from the people caught in the quagmire of unending problems of ever escalating inflation and their falling purchasing power to meet the both ends. In reality, the life of all classes of people from the lower to the middle has become difficult to live. Looking at the response, reaction and mood of people, the jail bharo andolan of BJP is going to be a success. But, how far it will wake up or stir the Centre and the State is difficult to say. |
