SILCHAR, June 19: In the Gamon Bridge, one of the oldest bridges over the mighty Barak along the National Highway-6 at Badarpur that connects Barak Valley with the State capital and other States of the Northeast, a huge crack occured in the middle, resulting in the disruption in the movement of all sorts of vehicular traffic. The bridge has been closed for the vehicles.
Nobendu Sekhar Nath, president, Katigorah development committee, recently visited the site of the crack and talked to the engineers of the construction company that was entrusted with the repairing work. Paresh Parkia, Subhendu Das and Kaushik Paul, site engineers assured him that the repair work would be completed very soon. Nobendu requested the authorities of the construction company to complete the project as early as possible. He said that the crack in the bridge has created a lot of problem for the people of Barak Valley. He also made a request to before the government to construct an alternative bridge over the Barak river. The bridge was inaugurated on January 26, 1974. |
