SILCHAR, July 6: Various extremist elements have become active to disturb peace and tranquillity in Barak Valley following the Rumi-Jacky affair. These elements have to be identified and dealt with severely. Jana Jagran Manch in a fax message to the Chief Minister of Assam, Tarun Gogoi, has sought his intervention for causing independent and un-prejudicied probe into the violent incidents that hit the valley. The Manch has cautioned what has happened centering round Rumi in particular is ominous for the region, once called ‘an island of peace’.
The way things have taken place, shattering the social solidarity among people, leading to communal frenzy and divide, the Manch finds behind it a deep rooted conspiracy by a group of vested interests who are trying to fish in troubled-water and play dirty politics with the sole objective of instigating the passion of revenge. They have to be identified as the ‘enemies of people’. The Chief Minister has been called upon to deal with them sternly and restore the age old amity and friendship among different communities in this valley.
The Manch taking note of the report published in a section of the print media that the Chief Minister has ordered investigation into the role of Gautom Roy, Minister of PHE, in Rumi episode has insisted that the probe should also cover those persons who are at the centre stage of accusation and controversy. The statement of Roy, it has said, has been misinterpreted and distorted in the media. What he has actually said to the members of both the communities is that they have to stand guard together and resist with all force any attempt by the mischievous elements to repeat Rumi Nath like unsavoury incidents. Otherwise, the poison of hatred and violence will engulf the entire valley which is never desirable, it clarified to put the record straight.
The Manch leaders have reminded that Gautom Roy who has been a minister for years and a seasoned politician can hardly be expected to make any statement which tantamount to provocation to foment trouble. It is for the Chief Minister to think over and decide, they feel.
Media reports have come out with telling evidences of a minister and a general secretary of the women front of Congress along with some others of the party being a privy to the marriage of Rumi with Jakir Hussain alias Jacky and cannot escape their responsibility in the subsequent developments . Why should not these persons also be brought under the probe if it is really going to happen, they have asked? The Manch leaders are planning to meet the Chief Minister soon with a memorandum in order to apprise him of all the facts. This has been decided at a meeting of the forum today in its office located at the Sonai Road of this town.
Those present at the meeting included chief advisor Dr Chapalesh Chakravorty, Dr Arijit Dhar, Sushil Chakravorty, Dr Sisir Kumar Chakravorty, president Mrinmoy Nath, Gopal Dutta, Debabrata Nath, Manojit Dey, Manas Dutta, Kanailal Singadia, Subrata Deb, Bibhu Deb, Dipankar Bhattacharjee and general secretary Debajit Deb Roy among others. |
