SILCHAR, July 9: The Grahak Suraksha Samiti of Cachar district committee raised questions on the activities of Urban Sewerage Board, as the vast areas of the localities of the Link Road, National Highway and Hailakandi Road have been suffering from drinking water scarcity for the last few days.
Biplob Kumar Goswami said that the role of Urban Sewerage Board had been unsatisfactory since which and completely failed to serve the interests of the people. He added to say that the Board was showing excuses of requirement of 100 kv pump to cover the vast areas of Link Road but it continues to provide new connections. It was his opinion that the Board should have thought of the problem before giving new connections.
Goswami pointed out that despite giving huge taxes to the department; the people of the area are deprived of their basic facilities. He demanded immediate solution to the problem. Otherwise they would launch a mass movement, they said.
The organization also decried the State government for imposing 5 per cent VAT on Sugar and Cloths. Goswami said that the prices of grocery items soaring up in the State and now this increase in Cloths and Sugar will directly hit the common people and add to their sufferings. By terming this hike as unjustified, he said that the government is following anti-people attitude.
The GSS also sent a fax addressed to the Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today, demanding withdrawal of the 5 per cent tax from Sugar and Cloth. |
