SILCHAR, July 17: As part of its philanthropical and humanitarian mission, People’s Science Society in association with Pothikrit Shilpi Gusthi, a socio-cultural organization, distributed hundreds of packets of water purifiers to the flood victims of Malini Bill area of Ward No 23 recently.
Rajon Rabidas (24) a resident of the area, said that they were deprived of all the facilities during the flood period. “We have not received any packets of water purifiers. We are using unpurified waters,” he added. He pointed out that they had been in fear of consuming unpurified waters as many cases of diarrhoea and other diseases spread out following the floods in the valley.
Sukhla Rabidas (40) said that no elected representative had visited them. She also pointed out that they had not received any flood succour from the administration. “We have not received any aid from the government. We have been suffering but no one is here to take care of, even our elected representative is no where to be seen,” she said.
One, who preferred to be anonymous, said that they did not have proper roads. According to him, Sushmita Deb, MLA and Chairperson of Silchar Municipality Board assured them a few years ago that the road would be repaired soon, but till now the condition remains the same.
Other members present during the distribution of water purifier packets included Rahul Roy, Pritam Chakraborty, Suresh Singha, Anamika Das, Dibakar Nag, of Science Society and Prasanta Bhattacharjee, Aparajita Das of Pothikrit Shilpi Gusthi. |
