SILCHAR, Aug 17: A general meeting of the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) Yuva Front was held on Thursday. In the meeting, the members of the youth body condemned the recent incident of gang rape of a college girl in the town. The front demanded the exemplary punishment to the criminals of the crime. The Front requested the District Bar Association not to provide any legal support in favour of the accused who were involved in the heinous crime. The members of the youth front gave an ultimatum to the administration saying if the culprits are not arrested within 72 hours the organization would launch mass movement.

However, the District Bar Association cancelled the membership of the bar council of one of the accused, who is a lawyer by profession. ACKHSA Youth Front also extended its support to the movement of the students of Assam University in protest against the dilapidated condition of the road that connects the town with the varsity. As part of their protest, students of the varsity blocked the road at four different places on Thursday.
