Silchar, Jan 11: NCC Cadets in Silchar kicked off their weeklong celebrations for National Youth Day, this week. The celebrations started with a district-wide awareness campaign on cashless economy. During this campaign, the young cadets will harness upon youth power in the district and make them the brand ambassadors for the government of India’s prestigious project of spreading awareness on the various modalities of making cashless transactions. Their footprints would spread out to Pailapool, Borakhai, Barjalenga, Maibong and Haflong in South Assam.

The preparations for this campaign commenced recently, wherein the core group of Trainer Cadets familiarized themselves on the subject, so as to play a larger role in training the masses, especially the rural population. The formal inauguration of the awareness campaign was held in Government Women’s College, Silchar on January, 9 2017, which was attended by more than 300 students. During the function, the chief guest Brigadier B Chatterjee, Commander, NCC Group headquarters, Silchar, emphasized the need to migrate to cashless economy for accelerating national development.

Speaking on behalf of the student community, Dr MK Paul, the Principal, Government Women’s College, Silchar, pledged his full support to the campaign and assured that he would encourage the students to spread the awareness.

An expert in the field, Varun Jain, manager, State Bank of India, explained at length, the various methods of cashless transactions, elaborating the advantages of each method to the students.

Certain legal aspects were covered by Dharmananda Deb, a lawyer and activist in Silchar. Col A Shreenath, Commanding Officer, Girls NCC Battalion, Silchar spelt out the NCC’s action plan, wherein a series of such campaigns focused towards the rural masses will be conducted by the NCC Cadets trained locally.
