Das awarded by Congress for voting for BJP

From our Staff Reporter
SILCHAR, July 30: In a swift act, Dinesh Prasad Goala’s Urban Development Department issued a notice to appoint Binay Krishna Das, a rebel Congress Ward Commissioner who joined hands with the BJP to topple Susmita Dev, as the Chairman. The news sent a shock wave to the Congress as Das was awarded by the ruling party with the post just within 24 hours after he voted in favour of the BJP. Earlier Susmita Dev, who was voted out, appealed to Goala to appoint someone from the Congress Ward Commissioners who did not vote in favour of the BJP by rejecting the party’s diktat. Susmita told, “I am shocked”.
Meanwhile, the Silchar district Congress committee on Thursday saw the outburst of the party workers who virtually gheraoed the DCC president Arun Dutta Majumder demanding immediate removal of Congress Town Committee president Sajal Acharjee, whose wife Sanchita was one of the Ward Commissioners who voted in favour of the BJP’s no-confidence motion against Chairperson Susmita Dev and her Deputy Vijendra Prasad Singh. Irate Congress workers burnt the effigies of the seven Ward Commissioners who violated party order and voted in favour of the BJP.
On the other hand, the rebel Ward Commissioners in a press meet said the party could not issue any whip in civic body affairs.
However, in Silchar town, common people reacted sharply against the game, allegedly hatched out by Dinesh Prasad Goala, a Hindi speaking minister. Administration had to depute security in front of the residences of the rebel Commissioners. Binay Das was beaten up by the irate mob. People of his locality attacked his residence.
Congress leaders and workers of wards number 27 and 28 today brought out a rally and congregated at Congress Bhavan, and demonstrated, demanding expulsion of all the rebel party dissident Commissioners from the party and pressed for immediate action from the DCCI president Arun Dutta Majumder. They also burnt the effigy of Dinesh Prasad Goala, Minister of Urban Development and Housing, on the premises of Congress Bhavan. Goala was accused of being behind the toppling game to vote out Susmita Dev, Chairperson of Silchar Municipal Board, by Sontosh Mohan Dev, former Union Minister, Karnendu Bhattacharjee, former DCCI president, and others.
