MP in controversy
Of late, there are increasing reports of controversies centering round the activities of Dibrugarh MP Rameswar Teli. Teli loses no opportunity to snap a selfie with erstwhile Bollywood actress Hema Malini, also an MP from BJP. There are reports about his nonchalant attitude towards Dibrugarh. There are also reports that the funds meant for the development of constituencies had to be returned as almost all the MPs from Assam could not utilize the same during the stipulated time. We are sure the Dibrugarh MP is one amongst them. There are many instances of the apathy shown by this MP to many organizations of Dibrugarh. Once he was approached by one senior citizen with a polite request to arrange for erecting a foot-bridge over the big drain connecting Amolapatty with Chiring Chapori in the Tarun Ram Phukan (Convoy) Road near the Honda Dealer as the area happens to be very much accident-prone. The MP did not at all show interest. The secretary of the Dibrugarh Arts Player (DAP) alongwith some office-bearers approached him for doing something to give a facelift to DAP (the oldest theatre hall in Dibrugarh) only to receive a negative reply, whereas Bhubaneswar Kalita, a Rajya Sabha MP was kind enough to sanction a sizeable fund. The latest feather to Teli's cap is a letter written by the MP to DFO Dibrgarh to permit a contractor for illegally collecting sand from the Buri Dihing. The MP should ensure his acceptability to the people of his constituency, avoiding the myopic view where he can see only his sycophants.
Postponement of budget
The Opposition is demanding postponement of general budget as there are elections in 5 states and it may lure the voters. There is nothing wrong in such a budget as most of the budget provisions’ impact on few classes of voters is that of more burden on their finances. By presenting an alluring budget for such voters – that way these voters shall get some benefits at least! It is pertinent that voters now are intelligent; they can understand the real intentions of the budget provisions and country’s benefits too. This is proved by demonetization step of the government to eradicate black money. Such people are a very low percentage, but the majority suffered the harassment of standing in queues and learnt to live with lesser cash. The majority have proved that they are the most tolerant people in the world as they silently suffered for so-called country’s sake. The budget presentation on any day will not affect voters in general.
