GUWAHATI, June 28: Blaming the Government for its failure to safeguard the life and property of hundreds of people trapped in the surging waters of Brahmaputra and its tributaries across the State, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad today burnt the effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh near Dighali Pukhuri. Disclosing that the Government had failed to declare flood and erosion as National problem, the members of the AJYP said,“The Central as well as the State government has failed to safeguard the lives of the flood victims. Majuli ,the only river island on the world is on the verge of shrinking.”
The body also demanded immediate relief to the victims of the flood raveged areas along with clean drinking water supply, food grains and speedier rescue operation. |
