GUWAHATI, July 3: ‘Seujee Dharanee - the green earth’, an NGO had inaugurated its first Agroforestry project at No.1 Panchali, Lanka of Nagaon district on July 1. During the occasion, a workshop-cum-awareness programme had been organized at project site, stated a release. Three senior scientists from Horticulture Research Station, Kahikuchi named Dr A A Ahmed, Dr J P Barua and Dr S Gogoi, along with Nityananda Kalita, Associate Professor, Department of History of S D College, Hajo, Kamrup and Satya Ranjan Borah, founder cum President of ‘Seujee Dharanee - the green earth’ were the key resource persons in the workshop. The said project had been funded by ‘Trees for the future of United States.’ During the workshop, technical training and guidance on agroforestry had been provided to community members. “This is our first applied and practical initiative to fight against environmental degradation and to build a sustainable livelihood for rural communities. If we can achieve at least 50 per cent of our desired goal; we will expand the projects to other rural areas of Assam,” said founder cum president of the NGO, Ranjan Borah.
