By our Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, Aug 3: Throwing light to another incident of lack of police accountability, Azad Mehmud, a resident Dakhingaon, Kahilipara had filed a complaint in the Police Accountability Commission. According to Mehmud, on June 20, a number of goons, led by one Sultan Mehdi Hassan had forcefully evicted the members of his house in his absence and occupied it, throwing them homeless. Mehmud and his family are now homeless and unsheltered. His children’s books are inside the house and so are all his belongings, his work related documents. Despite filing several cases to the local SP, DSP, DGP as well as the DC who assured action but has failed to do so, Mehmud has now turned to the Public Accountability Commission for justice. Although the DC had assured to retrieve his necessary belongings from the house, his assurance has remained a mere promise, said Mehmud. The above case is a yet another example of how police have failed to protect the fundamental rights of its citizens.
