GUWAHATI, Aug 3: The Women Against State Repression and Sexual Violence demanded justice to the victim of Dolopa molestation case and urged the Womens’ Commission to take action against the accused Army jawan. They also demanded that the Army should make the punishment public.
Speaking to mediapersons today, Leela Ganesh, Chairman of Cell said the victim’s family have been harassed repeatedly by the Army in the name of investigation. They further said that the entire State should know how an army officer, who is expected to protect citizens molested a girl.
She further said that during their visit to the village, the team found several discrepancies in interpretations of the incidents, in procedures followed by various agencies and transparency in procedure.
It needs mentioning that on July 13, an army jawan of the 596 Field regiment attempted to rape a 19-year-old girl of the Mising community while she was collecting firewood. When the girl and her mother made a hue and cry, other women working in the vicinity of the forest rushed to the site and caught the jawan red-handed. |
