GUWAHATI, Jan 10: District 322 D of Lions Club International has set a target for distribution of rice among the poor in the Northeast. Talking to newsmen at Guwahati Press Club here today, Lions Club Internal Managing Director Dr. Bhaben Choudhury (District 322 D) said: “We’re going to distribute as many as 10,000 bags of rice, each bag containing 2.5 kg, among the poor people in the Northeast. The programme will start from January 13.” Lions Club International has as many as 6,664 chapters in India, including 103 in the Northeast. It has 45,575 international chapters as well. The Club extends services and aid for differently-abled people also. In Assam it has four eye hospitals where patients get treatment, free of cost. The club also lays more importance on environment protection.
