GUWAHATI, July 21: The Asom Yuba Parishad (AYP) has expressed concern over the fact that college authorities are hiking admission fees according to their whims and fancies.
AYP publicity secretary Angshuman Dutta said, “College authorities cannot keep hiking the admission fees as and when they feel like. This is affecting the economically poor students. It is unfortunate that the government has been unable to rein in these colleges.”
In this regard, the AYP submitted a memorandum to the State Education Department commissioner. AYP working president Sunil Deka said, “State Education Minister tomtoms about reforms and development in the education sector. However, he has not been able to control fee hike in colleges. Economically poor students are facing problems. In fact, in flood-affected areas, even well-to-do families are finding it hard to pay the admission fees of their children this year. We will oppose all such anti-student policies of the college authorities.”
The AYP has also submitted a memorandum to the Gauhati University Vice-Chancellor. |
