GUWAHATI, July 21: The Sadharon Jati Juba Mancha has reiterated its demand for a pro-poor reservation policy scrapping the current caste based reservation policy.
Taking a strong view on the cascading effect of the caste-based reservation policy, Bidyut Chakravarty, chief convenor of the body said, “We now have four generations who are availing the reservation, and thus it is a gross violation of the rights of those socially and economically backward who are left out.” He said that the time was appropriate to start a debate on revision of the existing reservation policy in the country.
On whether the Sadharon Jati Juba Mancha has been formed for collective political bargaining, Chakravarty said that it was not just a matter of collective political bargaining but also for collective social bargaining. |
