GUWAHATI, July 21: On the night of July 9 when a young girl was being molested by a group of hooligans, this man came as a messiah.
Senior journalist Mukul Kalita was the man who came up to rescue the girl from the hooligans who were out to outrage her modesty.
In an interaction session with mediapersons at Guwahati Press Club today, Kalita said, “I was a witness of that incident and hence it is my social responsibility to depose before the court if necessary. New generation journalists must also realize their social responsibility.”
He further said, “That night I was not there as a journalist. I went to save the girl as a father-figure. At that time I never thought that this would become news.”
Recalling the shameful incident, Kalita said, “Had the police arrived on time that night, things would not have turned so ugly.” He added, “Journalists are not above the law of the land.” |
