BJP demands NRC update by August 15

By our Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, July 22: The State BJP today slammed the inaction of the Congress Government in curbing the illegal Bangladeshi influx and delay in updating the NRC by calling it a tacit ploy to retain its Bangladeshi vote bank.

Speaking at a press conference held here at the BJP headquarters, BJP vice-president and MLA Dilip Moran said, “The delay in updating the NRC says it all. The Congress is unwilling to relinquish its vote banks, which comprises a majority of illegal Bangladeshi migrants. The Congress in fact is creating a safe haven for the migrants.”

The BJP vice-president has warned that if the NRC is not updated before August 15, the party would start a state-wide movement to flush out the migrants from the State.

Moran further criticized the government for failing to control price rise and the unemployment problems in the State.

As per government records, June 30, 2011, the total number of unemployed in the State stood at 18,22,924. However after the appointment of 24,059 TET qualified candidates under various teaching posts across the State and the appointing 22,000 others by August this year, the total the number of unemployed is expected to come down to 17,76,865 people. However, the BJP questioned as to how the government plans to employ the remaining candidates.

Speaking on the existing vacancies in the Assam police department, Moran said that at present the department has 5,062 vacancies while 2,867 promotions are pending. “These vacancies should be filled since the department is already facing the shortage of personnel. The deficit of adequate number of police personnel is the prime reason for the deteriorating law and order problems in the State.”

Meanwhile, Nazmul Alam Laskar, President of the Minority Morcha of State BJP said a resolution has been taken in the State executive meeting to press the government on declaring flood and erosion of Assam as national problems, CBI probe into the corruption in PHEs, Irrigation department, Agriculture department and MNREGA schemes, NRC update with photo identity and to publish where the minority funds are being used along with the total area of land under the Wakf board.
