GUWAHATI, Feb 2: Patients and their attendants have complained about the poor water supply in Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) due to which they are facing a lot of problems.
Patients and attendants have alleged that there is no water supply in GMCH after 12 am and it is only at around 8 am in the morning that water supply starts again. “Things have come to such a pass that we have to bring buckets and store water in them so that we can use the water at night after the water supply stops,” said an attendant.
It has been alleged that the problem is more acute in the female medicine ward and the male surgery ward.
GMCH superintendent Dr Ramen Talukdar, however, refuted these allegations. “No this is not true. Water is supplied in GMCH by the Panbazar PHE twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening.”
But he added, “Patients and their attendants often do not close the water taps after use and water continues to flow. Very often taps are broken or even stolen. We keep repairing these water taps but because of these problems sometimes there may not be water in our tanks.” |
