By our Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, July 30: The Assam Postal Circle has targeted 48,000 policies covering 4.23 lakh lives under Postal Life Insurance (PLI) and 4.24 lakh policies covering 69.64 lives under Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI) during the current fiscal. The PLI and PLI schemes mainly cover those belonging to the socially and economically less privileged classes in rural areas. Assam Postal Circle says that in view of recent economic recession, PLI and RPLI schemes are preferred by the people as one of the best and safest investment options mainly because of its “sovereign backing” by the Government of India. The Circle collected Rs 217.91 crore under RPLI and Rs 138.02 crore under PLI during 2009-10, the highest ever. “The overall business growth during 2009-10 was 36 per cent in PLI and 79 per cent in RPLI because of the sincere efforts made by all concerned among whom the divisional superintendents of Sivasagar, Nagaon, Guwahati and Darrang deserve special mention,” said Assam Postal Circle sources. The Sivasagar division with Rs 80.51 crore RPLI business topped the list of the nine postal divisions under Assam Circle.
