GUWAHATI, April 30: A felicitation program was conducted at the Assam Olympic Association office today on the occasion of 2nd Foundation day of Assam Sports Journalists’ Welfare Association. In this programme General Secretary of Assam Boxing Association Hemanta Kalita and President of Assam Archery Association Jayanta Baruah has made an urge to the government to award a sum of Rs 1 Crore to London Olympic qualifiers Shiva Thapa and Jayanta Talukdar on achieving medals.

In this occasion parents of both Olympic Qualifiers, the coach of the under-19 National Women’s Cricket champion – Assam team along with the coach of the  National Sub-Junior Football champion team  were felicitated. Coach of the Assam Police football team Tosen Bora could not be present at the venue due to bad health.

Inter-Railway Football Champion, NF Railway’s coach Kishore Chetry, Mir Iqbal Trophy Sub-Junior Football Championship winner Assam team’s coach Subir Dey, coach of the Under-14 Football Festival Champion team Siva Gogoi, National Women’s Cricket champion team Assam’s coach Sushanta Chakrabarty, parents of Siva Thapa – Padam Thapa and Gome Thapa, parents of Jayanta Talukdar – Ranjan Talukdar and Satyavati Talukdar,  President of Assam Boxing Association Kalikanta Boro, General Secretary Hemanta Talukdar and President of Assam Archery Association Jayanta Boro were all present at the venue.

The annual general meeting of the Assam Sports Journalists’ Association was also conducted before the felicitation programme. The future working of the association was discussed in the meeting.
