DIGBOI,  Aug 7:  The final of a district level football tournament which was organized by Digboi Lakhipather based Jyoti Yubak Sangha in association with 2/11 Gorkha Rifles concluded here amidst cheers at Lakhipather playground yesterday. In the tournament which had commenced on July 20, 24 teams in all from different locations of Tinsukia District had participated.

The decisive battle to take away the champion trophy was played last afternoon between  Segunbari of Margherita and  Makum Betjan in which the latter emerged victorious by 3-0. Janak Moran, Baburam Praja and Rituraj Dwarah of Makum Betjan the winner team scored each goal and helped the team winning the tournament despite the playground playing sporting sport almost throughout the tournament.

Pallashranjan  Gharphalia the SDO Civil Margherita, IPS Siladitya Chetia the SDPO, Gunaram Das the DFO Digboi , KP Rai and Mithlesh Singh both the Captains at 2/11 GR Lakhipather, Rajesh Upadhayay an active journalist at Digboi  were  among the dignataries  who graced the occasion as the invited guests and subsequently gave away the prizes to the deserving ones. However, Gharphalia handed over the winner trophy along with a cash award of rupees Ten thousand to the team Makum Betjan.

According to Prem Chetry, the President of the organizing committee, had it not been for the local Gorkha Rifles to come forward and encourage the organizing team in different ways , it would not  have been possible to conduct the tournament  smoothly   as per the expectation of the football fans who had gathered from various places of the district.
