From Our Correspondent Digboi, Feb2: The day 2 of the 35th All Assam Amateur Golf tournament at the difficult yet pristine par 72 air stripped Digboi Golf Links saw all the best amateur golfers in the handicap categories 0–12 and 13–20 teeing off on a cold and blustery morning on Saturday. However, the difficult pin positions on the fast greens saw many an accomplished golfer fall by the wayside, including the defending champion Sanjeev Jaiswal. The course conditions favoured the brave, die– hard and skilful golfer including the veteran warhorse Ajay Shukla. He played his characteristically tight game, accompanied by remarkable putting and scored the best round of the day. At the leaderboard he was also joined by, Sanjay Gurtoo, Karanbir Singh, and Salil Bisht, all with identical scores of 80 Gross, followed closely by a host of players. In the 13–20 handicap category, the day’s best gross of 86 was scored by Brigadier Pathania, Naveen Moktan and Wing Cmdr. Vivek Rawat. The 3rd day of the three days tournament that commenced on Friday last promises to be interesting with a crowded leader board and only the player with the toughest mental state may hope to be crowned the Champion. According to Haseem Ahmed, the official Spokesperson of the Upper Assam Golf Association, the tournament will conclude today. |
