State's flood situation grim, over 8 lakh people affected, 7 dead

GUWAHATI, Sept 23: The flood situation in the State has deteriorated on Sunday with 15 districts reeling under its impact. More than 8 lakh people have been affected in the current wave of floods. Sources said seven people have died in floods in Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Chabua during the past one week.

'Reduce huge backlog of court cases'

NEW DELHI, Sept 23: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar on Sunday asked lawyers to help courts reduce the huge backlong of cases, estimated to be about 27.5 million in subordinated courts, about 4 million in high courts and 50,000 in the Supreme Court.
