GUWAHATI, Aug 16: State Education and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma sent his resignation letter on Wednesday to the Chief Minister and to the Assembly Speaker.
According to sources, a close aide of Sarma handed over the resignation letter to the OSD of the Chief Minister at around 4 p.m. on Wednesday and the OSD handed over Sarma’s resignation letter to Gogoi.
When the Chief Minister on Thursday was asked about Himanta Biswa Sarma’s reported resignation letter, Gogoi said, “Please, ask the concerned minister for the answer.”
Himanta Biswa Sarma who met media persons here on Thursday, however, remained tightlipped on his resignation letter.
However, the State Education and Health Minister’s followers like Pijush Hazarika, Jayanta Malla Baruah, Ranjit Borthakur and few others were seen at Sarma’s residence.
Interestingly, Himanta Biswa Sarma also skipped the Cabinet meeting called on Thursday by the Chief Minister. In the Cabinet meeting, issues like the NRC update, rehabilitation of people in the BTAD area and the rumour of attack on the northeast people in Bangalore etc. were discussed.
Sources close to the State Education and Health Minister said he would not go to office from now on. According to sources, Himanta dashed off two letters – one addressed to the Chief Minister and another one addressed to the Assembly Speaker – seeking his resignation. He also sent similar letters to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh.
It is learnt that Sarma in his letter to the CM said that CM losing confidence in him has made him tender his resignation. |
