RANGIA , Aug 16: Army staged flag march coupled with imposition of curfew after incidence of violence hit Rangia sub-division afresh in which agitators belonging to minority community torched vehicles on NH-31 and set ablaze a Guwahati-bound passenger bus bearing no-AS-01-DD-2034 at Bhatkuchi area, about 5 km from here early today. The protestors set ablaze a wooden bridge nearby Bhatkuchi- Kakuwahati PWD road. According to sources, the minority community resorted to retaliation after alleged attack on one Sahidul Alam, at Kaurbaha under Tamulpur sub-division last night around 10 pm . Reports said, the taxi driver in a private car bearing No-AS01-AZ-2001 while coming back to Rangia hit a barricade installed by villagers meant particularly for night surveillance duty at Gosaigaon village under Kaurbagha police station. It was alleged that driver suddenly opened fire on the surveillance team and managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The angry villagers set the Tata Nano on fire. As rumour spread across Rangia sub-division that the driver along with other three persons in the Nano were brutally murdered, the agitators hailing from Balagaon and Bhatkuchi areas took to the streets and began to give vent to their anger on the vehicles plying on NH-31 today.
