By our Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, Aug 28: The Communist Party of India (CPI) has decried the demand of certain parties and organizations to scrap the BTC Accord and dissolution of the BTC asserting that such an action will infringe upon the rights of the indigenous people living in the Bodoland Territorial Autonomous Districts. “It is the right of all indigenous communities to uplift their socio-economic and political status with the rights bestowed upon them under the sixth schedule of the Constitution. Dissolution of the Council will only violate the rights granted by the sixth schedule,” said Bhugeswar Dutta, Secretary of Assam State CPI. Stressing that establishment of Autonomous Council for the indigenous people is supported by even the United Nations, he further called upon all to adopt progressive thinking and refrain from making demands which are injurious to the interest of the natives. |
