GUWAHATI, Sept 23: Crime against women in Guwahati is on the rise. Figures showing the number of complaints received by the Assam State Commission for Women between the year 1994 to June 30, 2012 are alarming.
In 1994, the Assam State Commission for Women received 26 complaints of crime against women. These included one dowry case and two rape cases. Out of the 26 cases, two cases were disposed of by the Commission.
In 2000, the Commission received 105 complaints of crime against women. These included nine dowry cases and nine rape cases. Out of the 105 cases, 18 cases were disposed of by the Commission.
In 2008, the Commission received 169 complaints of crime against women. These included 22 dowry cases and 10 rape cases. Out of the 169 cases, 57 cases were disposed of by the Commission.
Till June 30 this year, the Commission received 144 complaints of crime against women. These included 12 dowry cases and 9 rape cases. Out of the 144 cases, 62 cases have been disposed of by the Commission. |
