By our Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, Oct 1: In a move that will dealt a blow to the land mafia, the Kamrup (metro) district administration has issued instructions to all revenue circle offices in Guwahati to take immediate measures to free all government land from illegal encroachment. In the past few years, Guwahati has seen many incidents of land grabbing and on an average, 30-40 cases of land grabbing get filed in police stations in the city every year. As per the directions coming from the office of the Kamrup (metro) Deputy Commissioner, eviction on government land has already started in the Dispur revenue circle and the Sonapur revenue circle. In fact, Sonapur revenue circle officer Bipul Kumar Das has succeeded in freeing 1,473 bighas of government land from illegal encroachment in the past five months. If other revenue circles follow suit soon, it will put a check on land mafia from encroaching upon government land. |
