| One arrested for Rs 1-crore embezzlement |

By our Staff Reporter GUWAHATI, Oct 9: Sleuths of the Anti-corruption and Vigilance branch arrested Dibyojyoti Dutta, retired additional deputy director of the Delhi Tourism and Information Centre, in Guwahati on Tuesday on charges of embezzling more than Rs 1 crore. Dutta had been absconding since the past two years. A case (3/2011) had been registered against him with the Anti-corruption and Vigilance branch. Dutta had been living in a rented house at the Wireless Naamghar Path in Guwahati since April this year, with his wife and son. He was arrested from his residence at around 7 pm on Tuesday. The Anti-corruption and Vigilance branch, led by SP Raunak Ali Hazarika, conducted a raid in his house but did not come across any incriminating documents. Dutta was rushed off to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for medical examination and then produced before the court of the special judge. He has been remanded to judicial custody. Dutta hails from Sivasagar. |
