GUWAHATI, Oct 17: To ensure safety of public especially road users like children, students, women, senior citizens and differently-abled persons, the Guwahati Police have decided to put restrictions on the movement of vehicles from October 21 to 24 in the city. Besides road safety measures, the city police have taken care of the maintenance of law and order in the city which is going to see Durga Puja organized by the 475 puja committees.
The police have given instruction to the puja committees to provide identity cards to the volunteers who would be deputed in the puja pandals mainly for traffic arrangements. The puja organizers have also been asked to take the fitness certificates from PWD for their pandals.
City police sources said 500 additional police personnel including 200 traffic personnel are deployed in the city given the shortage of police personnel.
The city police have also decided to act tough on tipsy drivers during the puja celebrations and have already started a drive against tipsy driving. Several of the existing parking places have been temporarily changed and some new parking places have been set up temporarily, sources added.
A release issued by the Superintendent of Police (Traffic), Guwahati, said: “Goods carrying vehicles (heavy, medium and mini trucks) shall not be allowed to enter the city during the Puja days from 1 pm to 4 pm from Jalukbari, Garchuk, Lokhra, Beltola, Khanapara, Hatigaon and Chandmari sides. The goods carrying heavy trucks will be allowed to enter the city from 3:00 am onwards up to 10 am during the Puja days.”
No entry restriction will be imposed on Dispur Police Station area: Dr RP Road will be one way only from Ganesh Mandir side. There will be no entry for vehicles coming from Zoo Road side to Ganesh Mandir. Vehicles are to move via Service Road, GS Road and Supermarket Point. No entry will be imposed on Service Road from Wholesale Market side to Ganeshguri. No entry restriction will also be imposed on some areas under Paltanbazar Police Station, Panbazar Police Station, Jalukbari Police Station, Bharalumukh Police Station and Basistha Police Station.
Restrictions on movement of city buses have been imposed by the city police. The city buses of route no. 1 (return journey) shall move via Supermarket, Sixmile and Khanapara rotary towards destination. City buses of route no. 8 (return journey) shall move via Sixmile, Express Highway, Narengi Tiniali and Mother Teresa Road towards destination. City buses of route no. 10 (A) shall move via Paltanbazar-Ulubari-BK Kakoti Road and Chabipool towards destination. The city buses of route no. 13 shall move via Paltanbazar, Ulubari, BK Kakoti Road, Sarabbhati and Birubari Tiniali towards destination. The city buses of route no. 13 shall move via Paltanbazar, Ulubari, BK Kakoti Road, Sarabbhati and Birubari Tiniali towards destination. City buses of route no. 30 shall move via Sixmile, Khanapara rotary towards the destination.
The routes for light commercial passenger vehicles and slow moving vehicles have also been announced by the city police. |
