GUWAHATI, Oct 31: State Power Minister Pradyut Bordoloi on Tuesday said that the hike in power tariff would come into effect from November 1, 2012 and that contrary to media reports, power tariff would be hiked by 27 paise per unit. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday, Bordoloi said that the Electricity Regulatory Commission had given its nod to the power tariff hike. “The price of natural gas has been almost doubled and electricity is also produced by using natural gas. In such a situation, a hike in power tariff cannot be avoided. Hence even the Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved the power tariff hike,” he said.
