GUWAHATI, Nov 2: The Satra-Devalaya Surakha Aru Bhumi Bey-Dakhal Mukti Sangram Samity has urged the State government to deploy armed units for the protection of xatras and devalayas in the State from land encroachment and theft.
Talking to reporters here on Friday, Satra-Devalaya Surakha Aru Bhumi Bey-Dakhal Mukti Sangram Samity general secretary Kusum Kumar Mahanta said the government has not taken strong measures for the protection of xatras and devalayas in Assam, which are parts of the State’s religion and culture.
“Theft cases in xatras are increasing day by day. Even the satradhikars are facing threat from the encroachers. Recently, the Chief Minister announced that security would be provided to the xatras for their protection. He should immediately execute his decision,” Mahanta said.
The Satra-Devalaya Surakha Aru Bhumi Bey-Dakhal Mukti Sangram Samity further stated that the State government should free the encroached xatra land on the basis of the order of the Gauhati High Court and the State Revenue Board. |
