GUWAHATI, Feb 6: Workers under the State Government’s social forestry scheme are being neglected by the government. This was alleged by the Social Justice Forum today.
At a press conference in Guwahati today, Social Justice Forum president Golap Mazumdar said, “The social forestry scheme is a good scheme but it has not been implemented properly.”
He further said, “Moreover, workers under the social forestry scheme have long been deprived of proper wages. The government had announced that jobs of casual workers who have working in the forest department since and before April, 1993 will be regularized and they will be entitled to fixed pay scale. The Barpeta Forest Division is under the Lower Assam Social Forestation Circle, Bongaigaon. The Conservator of the Lower Assam Social Forestation Circle, Bongaigaon and the DFO of the Barpeta Forest Division have removed the names of the casual workers who have been working since and before April, 1993. Instead, they have put in the names of youths as young as 14-15 years of age.”
The Social Justice Forum has demanded of the government to take steps for proper implementation of the social forestry scheme and to take action against corrupt officers of the Forest Department.
