From a Correspondent SHILLONG, June 28: Irked by the Meghalaya Government’s promptness to implement the High Security Registration Plate (HSRP) on old vehicles, the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) on Thursday met the State Transport Minister, Abu Taher Mondol asking “not to use force to implement the same”. It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court earlier this year had passed an order to implement the HSRP in the country. Speaking to reporters after meeting Mondol, FKJGP leader, Eldie N Lyngdoh said that it could not be guaranteed that vehicles fitted with such number plates could be easily traced if stolen. “We strongly opposed the implementation of HSRP in the State especially on old vehicles as such a tool still can’t guarantee the safety of vehicles,” Lyngdoh stated. |
