SHILLONG, August 7: For non compliance with its diktat, the militant outfit Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) early this morning shot dead a ginger businessman at point blank range.
Another person yet identified as Rupesh Bihari was also abducted from Radhe Bazaar under Bajengdoba Outpost, in the newly created North Garo Hills District.
According to eyewitness who refused to be named, the incident which occurred at around eight this morning, when a group of four heavily armed GNLA cadres pulled the business man, identified as Nitesh Shah (58), from his shop and shot him dead.
The police said there were two bullets holes in the body; one at the back and another in front on the chest area, while two empty rounds of carbine cartridge was also recovered.
Sources informed that earlier the GNLA had demanded money from Shah, but when he refused to oblige, he had to pay with his life.
Although not confirmed, it was said that Area Commander of the outfit, Chinang aka ‘Laden’ was the brain behind the incident, to which a police official said that this is the outfit’s way of showing that they can still fight for the sovereign Garoland. Meanwhile, the police have intensified their search operation in the areas. |
